If you need a visa, you must already prove that your livelihood is secured in Germany when you apply for the visa in your home country. Don't forget that you will also need this proof again if you need to extend your residence permit.

Additional information
We would like to help make your start in Germany as pleasant as possible. Therefore, it is important to us to provide you with good information about the cost of living.
Especially in the first few weeks after your arrival, you may find that your expenses are higher than you initially expected. For example, you will usually have to pay a deposit for your apartment, which can amount to up to three months’ rent. You may also need to purchase some everyday items-such as clothing, dishes, furniture, or technical equipment. If this is your first time living in Germany or living on your own, it will take some time to find out where you can shop affordably and how to best manage your budget.
Please also note that it is not always possible to immediately get a room in the student dormitories run by the Studierendenwerk Augsburg. It may happen that at first you have to rent a room in a private dormitory or a shared apartment (WG) - these are sometimes more expensive (for example, 600 euros instead of 300 euros). However, after a few semesters, you will often have the opportunity to move into a more affordable room.
If you are planning to support yourself with a part-time job, please keep in mind that many jobs require knowledge of German. Without sufficient language skills, it will be more difficult to find a suitable position. The jobs that are possible with little knowledge of German are often physically demanding and not always well paid. We therefore recommend that you take this into account in your planning.
We wish you a successful start and are happy to assist you if you have any questions.
