Well-trained specialists are an important prerequisite for the success of medical informatics. To strengthen the next generation of scientists, a total of 21 junior research groups are currently being funded across Germany as part of the 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏ical Informatics Initiative (MII). On September 7 and 8, 2024, the Early Career Scientist Summit took place at the Technical 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏 of Dresden as part of the 69th annual conference of the German Society for 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏ical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS). A total of 20 young scientists came together to get to know the four central specialist areas of the GMDS - medical informatics, biometrics, epidemiology and bioinformatics - better in an intensive two-day workshop and to deepen their knowledge in practical exercises.

Johann Frei attended the 62nd Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL 2024) Bangkok, Thailand, from August 11 to 16, where he presented his current research. The ACL is one of the world's leading conferences in the field of computational linguistics and natural language processing (NLP).

The 69th Annual Meeting of the German Society for 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏ical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS) e.V. took place in Dresden from September 8 to 13, 2024. The GMDS is a leading professional society that brings together experts from the fields of medical informatics, biometrics, epidemiology, social medicine, prevention, medical sociology and public health. This year, we were also there to present our research work.

We are very pleased to announce that Katharina Ott, bachelor student and student assistant at our chair, has won the GMDS Sponsorship Award 2024 in the field of 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏ical Informatics! Her outstanding work on predicting overall survival of glioblastoma patients using deep learning and MRI images was recognized for its innovative approach and promising results.

At this year's European Bioconductor Conference (EuroBioC2024) in Oxford, Dr. Florian Auer from our chair at the 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏 of Augsburg presented his poster entitled "Enhancing Reproducibility: A Comprehensive Workflow for Integrating and Visualizing Biological Networks".

Every year, the German Society for 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏ical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS) honors outstanding original theses in the fields of medical informatics, medical biometry, epidemiology, medical bioinformatics and systems biology as well as medical documentation. Katharina Ott from the 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏 of Augsburg is one of this year's promising candidates with her Bachelor's thesis.

From September 25 to 29, we were able to present our latest research findings at the 34th 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏ical Informatics Europe Conference (MIE) of the EFMI - European Federation for 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏ical Informatics in Athens. It was a great opportunity to network with experts in medical informatics and to learn about current developments and challenges.
