(...) After a keynote speech by the lawyer Prof. Dr. Michael Schmidl, a panel discussion was held in the Oberen Fletz of the Augsburg City Hall to discuss the current legal level of protection in data protection law, whether personal data is sufficiently protected and whether the high administrative burden for companies resulting from the DSGVO is justified by effective data protection. The question was raised whether there are shortcomings in the enforcement of data protection law. Experts from politics, science and business answered questions on the strengths and weaknesses of data protection law. The audience not only followed the experts' discussion with their different points of view closely, but also participated in the lively debate with their own questions and comments. It became clear that the topic of data protection law affects all citizens in times of ever-increasing digitalisation and will become even more present in the future. Following the discussion, the participants had the opportunity to exchange views with the experts over a drink. The organisers were the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence INspiRE (European Integration - Rule of Law and Enforcement) (Prof. Dr. Thomas M.J. M?llers), funded by the European Union, in cooperation with the European Office of the City of Augsburg, Europa-Union Augsburg e.V. and the Augsburg Adult Education Centre.
