Bachelor/master thesis and Softwarepraktikum
The High-Performance Scientific Computing Lab continuously offers bachelor and master theses on a variety of topics. We encourage students to propose their own topics of interest for their thesis, but of course it is also possible to get a topic assigned if you do not have a specific subject in mind. It is also possible to conduct your Software Lab ("Softwarepraktikum") with us. If you are interested, please reach out to one of the scientific staff members or send an email to Michael Schlottke-Lakemper.
To give you an idea about possible areas topics for your theses, please check out the following (incomplete) list of bachelor/master theses that have been assigned in the past:
- Secure statistical analysis of medical data with homomorphic encryption (2025)
- Offloading the Discontinuous Galerkin Method to GPUs in Julia (2024)
- Stable high-order simulations of tropospheric phenomena (2023)
- Simulation of the moist Euler equations with precipitation (2022)
- Robust and self-learning shock capturing with artificial neural networks (2022)
- Perturbation kinetic equations for turbulence simulations (2022)
- Octree-Based AMR on Cubed Sphere Grids with Discontinuous Galerkin Methods (2022)
- Non-reflecting boundary conditions for computational aeroacoustics based on articifial neural networks (2022)
- Deep learning-based boundary conditions for computational aeroacoustics (2021)
- Shock capturing with articial neural networks (2021)
- High-order numerical methods with shock capturing (2020)
When submitting your finished thesis, a digital submission according to the thesis submission guidelines is required as well. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to talk to your advisor.
