  • Investigation of Microstructure Evolution in PyC Matrix in C/C Composites

Liquid Silicon Infiltration (LSI) is one of the key processes for manufacturing Silicon carbide (SiC) matrix composites. This process involves infiltration of porous carbon preforms with molten silicon at high temperatures to form SiC. The infiltration of Si into the carbon matrix and the subsequent reaction to SiC depends largely on the morphology of the carbon matrix, which in turns depends on the Fiber-Matrix-Bonding (FMB) at the Carbon fiber reinforced composite (CFRP) state. This study tries to investigate the influence of FMB on the matrix microstructure at the C/C state and subsequently the silicon infiltration behavior during LSI.
