With the US-based philosopher Vittorio H?sle, one of the most prominent representatives of objective idealism has been invited to be an International Visiting Professorship at the Jakob-Fugger-Zentrum of the 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏 of Augsburg in the winter semester 2021/22.

Objective idealism assumes that moral values occupy a special position in an ideal structure of the world, meaning that an understanding of the world must almost inevitably follow these values. Accordingly, Vittorio H?sle regards the philosophy of politics as an important focal point of his work. He outlined?a philosophy of the ecological crisis and examined?the "global centrifugal forces," the symptoms of which he identifies in the rise of right-wing populism, secessionist tendencies in the EU, as well as in nation-states and global migration movements. From this perspective, he examined?the Corona crisis as well.

The events in Augsburg will focus on "Objective Idealism - from Metaphysics to Politics." Vittorio H?sle will discuss the relationship between Objective Idealism and Theism, and? will examine global centrifugal forces from different perspectives. In addition, there will once again be an opportunity for master's and graduate students at the 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏 of Augsburg to engage in an in-depth exchange with our guest in the framework of a workshop.

About the speaker
Vittorio H?sle
is a professor of philosophy at the 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏 of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA. While there, he founded the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Study. He is one of the most distinguished representatives of objective idealism. His dissertation at the Eberhard Karls 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏 of Tübingen was on "Wahrheit und Geschichte. Studien zur Struktur der Philosophiegeschichte unter paradigmatischer Analyse der Entwicklung von Parmenides bis Platon." His habilitation was devoted to "Subjektivit?t und Intersubjektivit?t. Untersuchungen zu Hegels System." He taught at the New School for Social Research in New York, at the 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏 of Essen, and at the Research Institute for Philosophy in Hannover. Vittorio H?sle's research focuses on political ethics in modernity, religion, and literature. His major works include ?Philosophy of the Ecological Crisis“ (1991), now translated into eight languages, and ?Morality and Politics“ (1997). Visiting professorships and fellowships have taken him to Italy, Russia, Norway, Brazil, and South Korea, among other places. In 2013, he was appointed by Pope Francis to the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. Most recently, the books ?Globale Fliehkr?fte. Eine geschichtsphilosophische Kartierung der Gegenwart“ (2019) and ?Gott als Vernunft. Zentrale religionsphilosophische Fragestellungen auf Grundlage eines objektiven Idealismus" (2021).
