postdoctoral position (m/f/d), Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Materials Engineering

The Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Materials Engineering of the 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏 of Augsburg, Chair for Theoretical Physics I (Prof. Dr. Fabian Pauly), is offering a

postdoctoral position (m/f/d)

in the scope of regular working hours for a fixed-term contract of 2 years to be filled as soon as possible. Further temporary employment is envisioned, if the necessary conditions are given. The position is part-time, provided that full-time performance of the duties is ensured through job sharing.

Project

The postdoc’s research should align with and extend the activities of the Pauly group. The Pauly group studies different aspects of quantum transport through nanostructures and nanostructured materials, ranging from charge to heat transport. Further research topics involve excited states and their dynamics. We typically use first-principles electronic structure theory to construct material-specific models and different techniques of many-body theory such as Keldysh nonequilibrium Green’s functions or many-body perturbation theory to describe complex physical behavior. In this context, we are developing electronic structure theory further and are part of the TURBOMOLE development team ( https://www.turbomole.org). Many projects are carried out together with international partners, involving both experimental and theoretical colleagues.?

Job-specific tasks

The position will support the Chair of Theoretical Physics I in research and teaching. The teaching load amounts to 5 teaching units during the lecture time. Teaching can be given in German or English. We offer and actively support your further scientific qualification.

  • Development and application of material-specific methods to theoretically model charge and heat transport in nanostructures and nanostructured materials.
  • Studies with force fields, molecular dynamics simulations, modern electronic structure methods such as density functional theory (DFT) and beyond.
  • Extension and adaptation of functionalities in program codes of the Pauly group and TURBOMOLE.

Job-specific profile

  • PhD degree in physics, chemistry or materials science.
  • Solid background in (theoretical) physics, (physical) chemistry and materials science.
  • Experience with quantum transport, material-specific modelling (DFT, GW approximation, force fields, …) as well as programming are important additional qualifications.

Qualifications must be proven by submission of relevant certificates.

Job-specific offers

  • Training in modern theoretical problems and methods (quantum transport, DFT, force fields, molecular dynamics, high-performance computing etc.)

If personal and tariff requirements are fulfilled, salary follows the collective agreement for civil servants on a contractual basis in the public sector according to Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L.
